A RareAustrian Spelter & Alabaster 'Carnivale Girl' Torchiere Lamp,by Josef Lorenzl, with originallilac frosted-glass flame shade, circa 1935.

Josef Lorenzl was one of the most famous and prolific sculptors of the Art deco period. He produced figurative pieces in both bronze, spelter and porcelain, where he worked along side Stephan Dakon in the famous Austrian Goldscheider factory. His pieces depicted the style and elegance of the period, where his ladies with their slim elongated, almost boy-like features found fame throughout Europe and the world. His sense of oppulence and sexual liberation, reflected the revolution in society of the roaring nineteen-twenties and thirties!

This period lamp, designed by Lorenzl,is cast varieing hues of silvers, golds, pinks & greens. It depictsagirl at the Venice Carnivale in Spanish costume, striking a dynamicpose against the billowing flame shade. This paticular figure was designed as one of a pair of carnivale figures, where her male counterpart was dressed as Pierrot playing a mandolin. Shestandsatop a geometric polished alabaster base, holding thedecorated silver shade-gallery & bakelite on/off switch, for ease of use. This shade-gallery, which holds the smoky-lilac glass flame-shade, is decorated with Arabic, showing the Moorish connections to the girls costume. All is in lovely originalcondition, with thecold-paintedfinish free from any major loss or damage, remarkable for the lamps age.

The lamp has been re-wired at some stage, withthe push button 'on/off' switch working fine andtakes astandard bayonet bulb. But as with all old electrical items, it should be tested and checked by a qualified electrician before prolonged use.

This stylish period lamp is animpressive260 mm's tall, by 185mm's long & 100 mm's deep, andis quite weighty for it's size. The original glass shade sitssecurelyin the silver gallery.

All my pieces are very well wrapped & packed individually in strong boxes to secure safety in transit, and are sent recorded parcel post. International buyers are more than welcome to ask for a shipping quote from Ireland to their delivery destination. Thank you for taking the time to view my sale!
