Rare Art Deco Spelter 'cleopatra' Globe Lamp, C.1925:
A RareArt Deco 'Cleopatra' GlobeLamp, cast in cold-painted Spelter, depicting a reclining semi-nude 'Cleopatra' holding a Globe Lamp, created circa 1925.
This period lamp, is cast incold-painted thickly-bronzed spelter&frosted glass, with an Egyptian-Revival semi-nude figure of 'Cleopatra' invarieing hues of verdigris bronze, on a matching bronzed and black Classical plynth. It depicts the famous Egyptian Pharoah on a tiered stand decorated with acanthus leaves on each corner. She holds aloft the globe lamp, as she stares intoit's mesmerising light, sparkling out of thefrosted crackled-glass. All is in lovely condition, with just the usual small areas of age-related loss& marks to the cold-painted bronze finish. The figure is seperatly cast & screw-bolted to the stand, with the lamp wiring running through the body into the base. The lamp itself takes a standard-fitting bayonet bulb, which works fine and has at some time been re-wired. But as with all old electrical items, it should be tested and checked by a qualified electrician before prolonged use. The textued frosted glass shade is free from any cracks or nibbles and diffuses the light beautifully.
This stylish period lamp is 230mm's tall, by 220mm's long and 130mm's deep, and quite weighty for it's size. The glass shade slots onto the rounded & raised bulb-holder & gallery securely.
