Rare Atwater Kent Model 46 With Wooden Console And Speaker Serial # 2296320:
Atwater Kent Model 46 with Wooden Console and Speaker serial # 2296320The Model 46 was produced in 1929 and utilizes a TRF circuit. This model was originally designed as a tabletop set, however Atwater Kent dealers gave customers an option to have this model put inside of a wooden cabinet as a console model. It appears that for whatever reason, few people chose this option and as such there are few examples of this cabinet. This is the only one I have seen in person. The Model 46 uses 8 tubes: a #80 by RCA Radiotron Cunningham, 4x #26 by Super Airline, Cunningham, Wizard and Philco, 2x #71A by RCA Radiotron and the second is unreadable, and a #27 by RCA Radiotron. As shown in picture 5, 2 of the tubes are the older 1920s globe style: the Cunningham CX326 (#26) and the RCA Radiotron UX171A (#71A).The receiver case is in good shape. All four original feet are present, all internal labels and tags are present and readable, and the knobs turn freely. There is no lid; this could be due to it's use in a cabinet or later removal. The case measures about 10" deep x 17" wide x 6.5" high. Weight is over 40lbs.Speaker is designed for cabinet use, not for a tabletop set. It measures 11" diameter and about 8" long. It will need to be re-coned. It weighs about 20lbs. The cabinet is in rough condition, the top and sides are very loosely held together and it is missing it's legs. It is in need of restoration. It measures 24" wide x 26" tall x 16" deep. As pictured, the front is it's best side, while the top and sides are the worst. It is the lightest of the three pieces at under 20lbs. Due to the size, weight and fragility of these pieces, this will be pickup only. Due to the fraying of the cords, no power was applied to the set. The tubes are untested. Everything is sold as-is.
