Rare Austrian Art Deco Spelter & Chrome 'cocktail Girl' Striker By Dakon C.1930:
A Rare Austrian, Cold-Painted Spelter & Chrome 'Cocktail Girl' Table Striker or Lighter, designed by Stephan Dakon, around 1930.
Stephan Dakonwas one of the most famous, yet elusivesculptors of the Art deco period. He produced figurative pieces in both bronze, spelter and porcelain, where he worked along side Josef Lorenzl in the famous Austrian Goldscheider factory. His pieces depicted the style and elegance of the period, where his ladies with their slim elongated, almost boy-like features found fame throughout Europe and the world. His sense of style & glamour, reflected the revolution in society of the roaring nineteen-twenties and thirties! For many years his pieces were mistaken as being by Lorenzl, as they worked side by side, using similar models, espeicially at Goldscheider. Yet Dakon pieces aremore rarer to find, and this striker model, is the only one I've ever come across, designed by Dakon.
This paticular piece is cast in cold-painted spelter & chrome, as a gentleman's table lighter or striker, with varieing huesof polished chrome and satin silvers to thegirl, where the chrome finish accentuates her hair, bar stand & base. It depicts arisque 1920's dancing girl, leaning forward, raising her skirt up to reveal her under-garments behind! All posed against an Art Deco bar-stand, holding a cocktail glass. It is this cocktail glass that holds the wand for the striker, and the fluted-stand would of contained the lighter fuel.It standson four chromed bun feet & the striker-wand will require a new flint tip, should you wish to use it. The striking plate behind the girl, retains the original striking material. All is inamazing original condition, with only slight strike marks to the chrome base, showing original signs of use. This paticular figure by Stefan Dakon is featured in the Goldscheider catalogue, by Ora Pinhas on page 124, in porcelain!
She stands an elegant 180mm's tall by 110mm's deep and 110mm's wide, and is quite weighty forthe size!
