An Early 20th Century Bezalel Brass Hanukkah Lamp Menorah, Jerusalem, Ca 1920.
An early 20th century Bezalel brass Hanukkah lamp Menorah, Jerusalem, Ca 1920.
The backplate is embossed with the Temple menorah and flaked by two rampant lions above relevant Hebrew inscription and below a stylized relief of the Star of David.
This menorah was originally silver plated but the plating worn out during the years.
Fronted by a row of oil receptacles and matching detachable servant light (Shamosh).
Set on four supports.
Very good condition. Height: 23.5cm / 9.25in.
Marked – Bezalel, Yerushalem.

The Bezalel School was founded in 1906 by Boris Schatz, who shaped its character.
His approach stressed both the practical and the ideal.
His vision was to develop useful arts and crafts among Palestinian Jews, thereby decreasing the dependence on charity.
At the same time, he sought to inspire his students to create a Jewish national style of the arts, in order to promote the Zionist endeavor.
