Rare Civil War Soldier Ambrotype Photo Image For Sale
Rare Civil War Soldier Ambrotype photo image
This was purchased at a tag sale a long time ago. The information I was given might or might not be correct but I was told this is an ambrotype image of a Civil War Union officer from around 1860 with an early pattern forage cap and a Union shell jacket with officer shoulder boards. I think the metal shape on the front of his hat is a horn. There is hand painted gold on the shoulder boards, the hat decorations, across the top of his hat, and on all the buttons. This is a really clear picture and you can see all of the detail really well. There's a few very little rubs on the very top edge of the photo where the frame rubbed. I didn't take the glass completely out of the metal frame but I looked under the metal and the glass looks complete. It's a little dirty but I don't want to clean it. There's no hinged case, just the thin gold metal frame which is 4 3/8" x 3 1/4".
