Rare Clews Staffordshire Antique Pearlware Soup Plate & Lunch Plate Blue Willow:

This sale is for a Lovely and Rare Pair of Antique Pearlware Pieces – a Soup Plate and a Lunch Plate – made by Clews of Staffordshire England in the company’s Striking Blue Willow Pattern.
The pieces date to circa 1820.
They are in Very Good Condition, especially for that age – nearly 200 years old. There are no chips or cracks or repairs to either piece.
The soup plate measures about 9 7/8 inches across and about 1 3/8 inches tall. It has an impressed Clews Warranted Staffordshire Crown mark in a circle as well as a Clews blue backstamp.
The other piece measures 8 ½ inches across, which I believe would make it a lunch plate. It has an impressed Clews Warranted Staffordshire Crown mark.
The underside ring of the soup plate that rests on the table is brown and rough three quarters of the way around as a result of worn away / missing glaze (see last photo). There are also small brownish dots on an area of the underside of the rim (photo 11). You cannot see either from a frontal display view.
The colors and decorations are vivid and clear throughout both pieces.
They were a recent estate sale discovery and are fresh to the market.
Pieces in this pattern made by Clews are incredibly hard to find, especially in this fine condition.
