Rare Collectable Illinois Barrel Case 17j 1929 Men’s Wristwatch:
Rare Collectable Illinois Marquis 17J 1929 Men’s Wristwatch
This is a very nice near mint condition Illinois Barrel Case men’s wrist watch. It looks like a Marquis model but have been told it may be a Whippet. It is not the same as the Whippet shown in the Complete Price Guide to Watches, and I don't see the exact model. This case is a double hinged case (see pictures) if that is a clue. This is a 17 jewel hand wound movement, grade 24, size 3/0 with a double roller and a micro adjust regulator. The serial number is 5174519 and it was made in 1929. This watch was just serviced with a complete disassembly, cleaning and freshly oiled. It is running good and keeps good time. It has a nice crisp cream colored dial with luminous numbers and hands. The hands and dial markers still glow brightly at night. The bezel and back covers are white gold filled and like new. It has a choice mineral glass crystal. This is a medium sized watch with a bezel that is 31mm wide and long. It has 16mm lugs. This watch fits a 6-1/2 to 8”” wrist with the band that is on it but also included is the original band that is like new but made for a maximum 7 inch wrist. I used this watch for a while and installed the longer band. It is using the original white gold buckle from the original band, but the buckles can be easily changed as the one now on the original band is yellow gold plated. Both bands are quality American leather bands and made about the same time. Illinois watches are legendary for reliability and quality construction. This watch is light and comfortable and intended for dress use. These watches are hard to find in any condition and in this condition almost impossible to find. Book value in this condition is 400 to 600 dollars so It is a real bargain at my asking price. If you are a collector of classic American made wrist watches, don’t let this one get away.
Please Read Before offerding or Buying
I am a fair and honest seller and any legitimate complaints are handled quickly and professionally. If you have a problem with the watch, it may need a simple adjustment or it was damage in shipping. I do not ever send watches out that are not as advertised, but I do get some problems with these old watches after they traveled thousands of miles and are handled by USPS or from buyers that just don’t understand how they work. It is almost always a simple problem. These old watches are not shock proof, or waterproof and don’t like very cold or extremely hot temperatures. They are rarely as accurate as they were when new. They are slippery when polished. If you drop them on a hard floor they will break so keep them on a chain or strong leather or nylon cord.
Please contact me with the menu link on the ad before opening a case. When you prematurely open a case, new rules will penalize sellers even if the problem can be resolved by simple communication. When you claim it is not as advertised before contacting me first you cause nothing but problems for me. Let’s all be fair.

I photograph all my items carefully before shipping, noting any defects or other problems. Any returned items must be returned in exactly the same condition as it was shipped in the original packaging with the original invoice. If this item is damaged in the mail I require a damage report from a registered USPS postmaster and the original packaging material may help me recover any insurance.
