Rare Confederate Imprint 1861 The Victory Of Manassas S. W. Lyle Timber Ridge Va:
Tonight I am listing three wonderful Virginia Confederate items (including a MAJOR RARITY) from the estate of prominent Rockbridge County VA leader, Samuel Woods Lyle of Timber Ridge VA. S. W. Lyle was born in Rockbridge County in 1798 and died in 1881. He was buried in the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church graveyard. This listing is for a Confederate imprint titled: "A Thanksgiving Sermon Preached on Occasion of The Victory of Manassas, July 21st, 1861 in the Presbyterian Church, Norfolk, VA by Rev. Geo. D. Armstrong, DD, Pastor." Published by J. D. Ghiselin, Jr. 1861, Norfolk, VA. Approx. 6 x 9", 16 pages, blue thread spine stitched. Pages have some toning and scattered smudging, there is a vertical fold line, handling wear, but overall a solid copy of a scarce Manassas imprint early in the Great War. S. W. Lyle written in period hand/pencil on top front cover. Interesting mix of religion, battle content and strong Confederate sentiments!
