Rare Confederate Imprint 1864 Oath of Allegiance Lexington VA S. W. Lyle estate:
$1691.99
Tonight I am listing three wonderful Virginia Confederate items (including a MAJOR RARITY) from the estate of prominent Rockbridge County VA leader, Samuel Woods Lyle of Timber Ridge VA. S. W. Lyle was born in Rockbridge County in 1798 and died in 1881. He was buried in the Timber Ridge Presbyterian Church graveyard. This listing is for a Confederate imprint titled: "The Oath. A Sermon on the nature and obligation of the oath, with special reference to the Oath of Allegiance Delivered in the Presbyterian Church, Lexington VA March 27th, 1864 by Rev. W. H. Ruffner. " Published by the Lexington Gazette 1864. Approx. 5 x 8.75", 18 pages plus covers. White thread stitched. Pages have some toning and scattered smudging, there is a vertical fold line, handling wear, but overall a solid copy of a rare Lexington VA imprint! Saml. W. Lyle, Esq. written in period hand on top front cover. Great item! As with the other imprint, this is a mix of religion, politics, military and Confederate sentiment.
