Rare Dated 1954 Orrefors Signed Studio Glass Vase By The Apple Designer Lundin?:
VERY RARE ORIGINAL MID CENTURY MODERNIST ORREFORS HANDBLOWN STUDIO ART GLASS SOMMERSO VASE, LIKELY DESIGNED BY INGEBORG LUNDIN FOR THE SWEDISH FIRM, SIGNED & DATED 17/2 1954
Beautiful Orrefors vase, both signed & dated with hand engraved signature underneath the base "Orrefors 19 17/2 54", also marked "Karusellen". Both color, shape & size are similar to Ingeborg Lundin's beak vases for the same firm, made in deep blue & bright yellow during the 60s, this could possibly be an early prototype for that later design? Rare & very collectable piece! Many collectors are familiar with Lundin's "The Apple" sculpture vase, her most famous piece of work, a great glass bubble which challenges the fragility of the material itself. The Apple was created for the important Helsingborg 1955 exhibition, and remains a symbol, not only for the exhibition, but for capturing the essence itself of the golden are of Swedish art glass. Lundin's glass pieces produced at Orrefors catches Scandinavian designs central attributes (from this period, and perhaps even still?); modest beauty and functional simplicity, sometimes referred to as the Swedish Grace. The magnificent history of Orrefors inspired her, as well as her famous colleagues Simon Gate and Edward Hald, but she also brought something completely new and fresh to the line of designers, honoring tradition at the same time as re-newing the ideas. Her dramatically simple objects demanded the most skillful craftsmen among the glassblowing masters to create them, and she reinvented the graal tecnique with unexpected color combinations and shapes. With the 1954 Lunning Prize and the 1957 XI Milan Triennale gold medal, international collectors got to know her unique designs. Great vintage condition, very light wear to base/exterior, no chips, cracks or repairs, a few unintended bubbles and slight unevenness from manufacture to rim and back, faint cloudiness to interior (not very noticeable though due to the very dark color)Dimensions: 3.5 inches (9cm) x 2 inches (5cm), weight unpacked 0.2kgsWE ALWAYS COMBINE SHIPPING AT DISCOUNTED RATES, usually adding approx $10/extra kgsItem ships from Scandinavia, carefully packed with recycled materials, fully insured, buyer pays actual shipping cost onlyShipping rates are based on weight, (see below), estimated shipping cost=weight unpacked item(s) + approx 200-400g packing material for safe shipping (more for large or very fragile items).
