Rare F. J. Kaldenberg Large Bent Meerschaum Pipe Lightly Smoked For SaleRARE F. J. Kaldenberg Large Bent Meerschaum Pipe Lightly Smoked. Very rare in very fine condition. This pipmaker and his son were considered to produce the finest Meerschaum pipes from the mid 1800s until the business closed in 1889. Please see various articles under the F. J. Kaldenberg name on the internet. This shop was under the Astor House Hotel, built by John Jacob Astor, and demolished in 1913, located on lower Broadway in NY. Length of pipe is 7". Bowl is 2 5/8" in height. The original case shows its wear, but the clasp is in working order. There are some small light marks on the bowl.It was obtained from Vinny Nastri at Barclay Rex in 1979. He advised that he bought it at an estate sale, and estimated that it was produced around 1880. I smoked it once. It is a wonderful collectors item.
