Rare Georgian sterling silver entreedish / lidded serving dish, made byPaul Storr and fully hallmarked for London 1804.
This is asuperb silverlidded dish made in the reign of King George III by one of the most important English silversmiths, Paul Storr, in 1804.
Thedish is rectangular in shape with rounded cornersand a carvedebonized wood handle to the back.
The domed lid has a leafring handle to the top and a band of gadrooning running around the outer edge.
The front of the lidand the base has aducal crown and crest.
Theserving dish has a hinged lid andgently curved base to the inside with a hollow below for holdinghot / boiling water.
The handle to theback has a screw thread and unscrews to allow the dish to be filled with hot water.
The entree dish is 9 inches / 228 mm wide and 6-3/8 inches/160 mm deep (not including the handle). It stands 5-1/2 inches / 140 mm high and weighs 1,275 grams.
The underside has clear hallmarks - lion passant, London mark, duty mark, letter I for 1804 and maker's mark PS for PaulStorr.
The dish is in excellent condition with no dents, damageor repair.
