Item Description: Up for sale is an unusual antique anniversary (also known as "400 day", "annual", or "torsion") clock. The clock was produced in Germany by the famed Jahresuhrfabrik that was later aquired by Schatz who made anniversary clocks for years to come. Movement features a "double elephant" logo on the back (see closeup below), characteristic of that time period. Terwilliger's guide dates this movement back to 1912, which makes this clock over 100 years old! The base is made of pink marble, which gives the clock a truly refined and exquisite touch. The rare engine-turned face also makes this clock a stand-out. The pendulum has an adjustment bezel up on top that allows one to adjust the pace of the clock if it runs too slow or too fast. The clock comes with a thick (presumably original) glass dome. The marble base does not have (and was not designed to have) leveling "feet" that were incorporated in clocks of later design to accommodate placement of the clock on surfaces that are not parallel to the ground. If you are new to anniversary clocks and need additonal info, please get in touch.
Dimensions & Weight: This is a "larger" clock for the type, measuring about 11-½ inches (29 cm) in height with the dome, the base is about 8 inches (20 cm) in diameter at the bottom of the base. The dome itself measures about 10 inches (25 cm) in height and 6 inches (15 cm) in diameter. The glass of the dome is almost full ⅛ of an inch (3 mm) thick! The clock with the dome weighs almost 6 lb (2.65 kg) without the packaging.
The clock does come with a brass winding key (not pictured), but it is likely not original to the clock. Item Condition: Overall the item appears to be well preserved, all original (unmarried) and complete. There are "signs of age" one would expect, but nothing unusual or excessive, in our opinion. On the face there are small fragments of translucent paint missing. Some brass parts have "micro-scratches" visible at close inspection. The marble base has deep "veins" (not cracks) that are typical for marble. It also has small "cavities" and micro-scratches. The glass of the dome has small air bubbles (imperfections typical of yesteryear manufacturing) as well as some scratches. There are also "flea bites" at the bottom of the dome that are inevitable from years of use. These are only visible if the dome is lifted off the base.
Item Condition Disclaimer: We always try to describe the condition of items for sale and make photos that are characteristic of their state in as complete a manner as we can. If a description appears incomplete or inadequate, or if you have questions about a particular aspect of an item's function or state, please don't hesitate to contact us before offerding. Any defects not mentioned in the text description but visible in the pictures will be considered part of item description. Antique and vintage clocks can prove very delicate. Even though we always package items securely to prevent any shipping damage, things can still go wrong while an item is in transit. Clock movement may need to be serviced/adjusted upon arrival, regardless of any of our recent servicing. Although this is only a very slight possibility, it can occasionally happen. For this reason alone we cannot guarantee an excellent running and accuracy in keeping time. Please bear in mind that by buying a used clock you are acquiring an old mechanical piece that WILL require additional service at some point in time in order to stay functional.Domestic Shipping: Item will be professionally packed. Most heavier/bigger packages are shipped via FedEx due to them being a better value for such shippments. If you prefer to use a specific carrier, please get in touch to discuss prior to purchasing the item due to possible additional cost. Shipping insurance for the full amount of sale will be included. (Adult) signature will be required for receipt of package.
International Shipping: I will be happy to ship worldwide (some locations are excluded, but if you can offer on this sale, we will be able to ship to your location). If the shipping cost to your location is not specified, please contact us for a quote. Please remember that any duties, customs, or any other fees imposed by your country are your responsibility.
Also note, that some international locations frequently report packages lost/stolen or otherwise mishandled by the state/local postal service. We can promise proper packaging and delivery of package to our (U.S.) postal service provider. What happens on the other end is outside of our control. If you wish for more assurance, you can request shipping via UPS, FedEx, DHL or other international courier service of your choice. Their services are usually much more expensive, so please inquire before making a purchase. Thanks for stopping by and have a great day!
