Rare Historical Staffordshire Plate ~ Cadmus ~ Diorama Series Dark Blue Transfer For Salediv align="center">
Rare Historical Staffordshire Pearlware Dark Blue Transferware Plate c1830
~ Cadmus (So Called) ~ Diorama Series Transport Views ~ Unknown Maker ~
9" in diameter
A Staffordshire dark blue transferware plate printed with a sailing ship sometimes identified as the Cadmus which brought LaFayette back to America in 1824. This series called Diorama has some English views and are marked but the same border used for several American views of transportation, a railway view, this Cadmus and two other steamboats, the Fulton and the other I am also listing. None of the series is marked but possibly by John and Richard Riley of Burslem. They all use the same border of many delicate flowers and the subject is always nicely framed by arching trees which give the scene a 'grotto effect.'
Both of these views I'm selling are free of cracks, hairlines or chips but both have the same glaze wear on the face; the rims retain their very glossy glaze but the faces are worn. The Cadmus has several scratches as well which can be seen near the ship and below, these could be touched in with some blue watercolor if you're inclined or professionally touched up. The wear is not terrible and like most old dark blue, if you look at it from a certain angle, yes it will look worn but hanging on a wall or in display they look very good.
for looking, !
Please see the other English / Historical Staffordshire / porcelain / pottery / soft paste / pearlware / creamware I have listed.
This sale is for the plate on the right only. I'm happy to combine shipping if buying both.
