A rare Hopi Ralph Tawangyaouma (d.) stamped sterling rectangular buckle having an oval Blue Gem Mine natural turquoise stone at it's center, with vibrant imaginative stampwork surrounding it, hallmarked with his "H" and "Sterling, Handmade", along with his storm or thunder cloud hallmark, active 1910-1960's. He was an early pioneering silversmith working with silver for about 20 years before using his storm cloud & "H" hallmark around 1930. This buckle has no buckle prong, nor did it ever have one.Back in the day it was made, they used suede and both tongues of the belt had straps.This bucklewould need a leather belt fashioned with snaps or a closure to the side or back to accommodate it.However, another option is itcould be used as a pendant with a chain or beads, for an unusual unique necklace, as demonstrated in the last picture. Please note: this is only an example of another option instead of using as a buckle, and the silver beads are not included in this sale. Buckle measures 2 5/8" X 1 5/8", having a slight contour, weight is 30 grams. Excellent vintage and collectable condition.
