Here is a tin drum canteen withbrown wool cover and original linen sling. 7\" diameter with thesides slightly convex and the seam forming a median ridge. Embossedwith a 4\" diameter ring on both sides. Tin spout, the originalstopper attached to the sling with twisted string. 3/4\" wide whitelinen sling, shows considerable wear with a couple of knots forrepair and retains the original small iron roller buckle. Brownwool cover shows honest wear with a few small holes but 95% intactand generally excellent, several areas with brown spattering.Although bearing a striking resemblance to known forms ofConfederate canteens, research indicates this is, in fact, a rareIllinois state issue, and soldier\'s initials, A. H. E. (Abner H. Edwards Co. G139th Illinois), are lightlycarved on the spout. One face of the canteen with very shallow dentat the top, the other face with a large diagonal dent, that almostgives the appearance of the piece having been run over bysomething.

Included with sale is a super rare 2\" diameter steelcircle with a sliding 2 1/4\" pin, attached to a piece of paper withperiod ink inscription, \" Blanket pin A. H. Edwards G. 139th Ills1864\".
