Rare Ives Clockwork United States Engine & Tender Stencilled Tin Train Bell Toy :
CLOCKWORKUNITED STATESENGINE WITH ARTICULATED INTEGRAL TENDER BELL TOY. This train engine has an inimitable style of design about it. The whimsy and imaginative design of this loco exemplify the early toy makers style and adds greatly to the folk art appeal. An unusual form, this particular, early style American locomotive features the large heart shaped drive wheels in front with steam chests located under cab window.Another unusual feature is the bell located between the cab and tender, which is activated by a large center wheel with a paddle that is struck when the toy rolls along the floor. Most attractive due to the typical fireplug style windows and various colors employed. Fine stenciling throughout includeing "United States" in gold on two sides of the boiler. Condition: Paint loss and stenciling loss throughout, top of cab roof appears to have been repainted and aged appropriately. Four fixed wheels on tender appear to have been reattached (one is de-tached now) and repainted, possibly older replacements. Please see pictures for detail, assets, flaws and condition. Pictures taken with flash sometimes make toy appear brighter than actual. Please do not hesitate to e-mail me any questions, be specific, although I enjoy selling old toys, I am not an expert. Toy is working, comes with wind-up key. Circa1880 I believe this to be IVES, could be Fallows. Size is 13 1/2" long.
