This handsome Tankard water pitcher was produced by Northwood Glass Co. c1890s. The shape is known as the "Triple-Tier Tankard, with the question mark handle". Very scarce. About 11 1/2" tallest. The color of this is somewhat unique. Its a Cranberry Opalescent, with a hint of orange... some folks call this color variation "Bittersweet". I know that its an intentional variation because I have handled Northwood 9 Panel sugar shakers in this exact variation of Cranberry Opal. This is the only water pitcher Ive ever seen in this particular color. The opal coinspots are light, and many have the round coinspot "halved". They look almost like hanging hearts, or perhaps Bittersweet fruits. I do believe that this was intentional, as opposed to a flaw... but thats my subjective educated opinion. Modestly reserved... a very rare example of Victorian Opalescent wares.
