Up for sale is this Ogden, Utah, Charter #7296, $10.001929 Type-1 Small Size. Fr. #1801, withtreasury signatures o f Edward E. Jones as Register of the Treasury and WalterO. Woods as Treasurer of The United States. The cashier of this bank is H.B. Barton and the President of the bank isCharles H. Barton. This bank changedtitles to “The National Bank of Commerce of Ogden, Utah’ on October 25,1920.

Finally the bank was placed into voluntary liquidation onJune 10, 1930, after issuing small size Nationals for just about 1 year. In that year, 16,632 total small size noteswere issued to the bank, most of which were redeemed quickly, as the neighboringNational Banks in the area usually made a strong effort to remove the currencyof failed banks from circulation.National Banks that went out this early in the small size issuing periodare usually quite difficult to find, as they also had additional time for otherbanks to redeem their notes from circulation.

There were four National Banks in Ogden, only two ofwhich issued Series 1929 currency. Thisis the rarer of those two banks!

The note has four ample margins. This note retains decent color for the grade. I grade this note as an About Very Fine, butyou look at the scans and judge for yourself. The Kelly Census shows 12 smallsize notes reported, 7 of which areseries 1929 type 1 $10’s, and the other 5notes are $20’s. This serial number isnew to the census, making a total of 13 small size notes. This is the earliest $10.00 to have survived, with its serial number of B000156A. There is one $10.00 reported in Very Fine, sothis would be the 2nd nicest $10 to be known on the bank at thistime.

This note would make a fine addition to any Utah Statebanknote collection. It also makes agreat addition for anyone collecting National Banknotes by type, as Utah is avery difficult state to obtain any National Banknotes from. Don’t let this note get away!

I will include free standard shipping with tracking. If you prefer Registered mail, I will onlypass along my cost, and not add to it.
