Rare Original Wiley Post Aviator Color Photograph Portrait Family Owned Oklahoma For Sale
You are offerding on a very rare one of a kind family owned hand colored portrait photograph of the famous aviator Wiley Post. The story behind the photo it was bought from an older couple from Oklahoma who kept it inside there sock draw for 40 years and just surfaced recently. The same exact frame and photograph was found in a book by Bob Burke- From Oklahoma to Eternity "The life of Wiley Post and the Winnie Mae" and shows his parents holding this very same exact photo and frame after there son passed away in the plane crash with Will Rodgers. The photograph is in wonderful condition and the frame measures 17 1/2 x 12 1/2. The photograph also comes with the books shown which is an autograph copy of the book. Wiley Hardeman Post (November 22, 1898 – August 15, 1935) was a famed American aviator, the first pilot to fly solo around the world. Also known for his work in high altitude flying, Post helped develop one of the first pressure suits and discovered the jet stream. On August 15, 1935, Post and American humorist Will Rogers were killed when Post's aircraft crashed on takeoff from a lagoon near Point Barrow in the Territory of Alaska.
Post's Lockheed Vega aircraft, the Winnie Mae, was on display at the National Air and Space Museum's Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center
from 2003 to 2011. It will be featured in the new "Time and Navigation"
gallery at the National Air and Space Museum in early 2013.
