THIS Passover ROLLING PIN IS A REAL MUSEUM ITEM, IT WAS USED IN ORDER TO MAKING THEMATZA (
unleavened bread made from flour and water, eaten on Passover)
FOR THE Passover AND IT WAS IMPORTANT TO MARK IT AS ONLY FOR Passover USE IN ORDER NOT TO MIX IT WITH THE REGULAR OTHER DAYS LEAVENED DOUGH .
THIS INSTRUMENT IS MARKED WITH THE HEBREW BLESSING INSCRIPTION :
"And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread"
" ושמרתם את המצות"
THIS ROLLING PIN WAS IN USE ONLY IN Passover AND SHOULD NOT BEEN USE ANY OTHER DAY.
THE INSCRIPTION IS ENGRAVED WITH MAGNIFICENT ASHKENAZ LETTERS AND IT IS A RARE FOLK JEWISH ITEM USED IN OLD DAYS.
I CONSULTED FEW EXPERTS AND WE ESTIMATE IT IS AN EARLY ORIGINAL ENGRAVING FROM THE EARLY 1800'S , PROBABLY EVEN EARLIER SOMEWHERE AROUND SECOND HALF OF 18TH CENTURY.
THE CONDITION IS GOOD AND IT IS OBVIOUS THAT THIS FOLK KITCHEN INSTRUMENT WAS IN LONG USE.
