DESCRIPTION: This is a rare pre 1933 Willys-Knight cutaway engine model salesmans sample in cast iron. It has its flaws but they can be overlooked as it is a working example of the Knight sleeve valve engine. On one side on base is "Willys-Knight" cast in high relief. On the turn handle side is "Notice The Short Slow Movement Of The Sleeves. The Sleeves Travel With The Piston On Both Power And Compression Strokes. This Actually Reduces Total Engine Friction. Also Notice The Perfect Hemispherical Combustion Chamber." also cast in high relief. It measures 1 5/8" x 3" on the base and stands 3 7/8" tall. You turn the knob and the piston runs up and down in the cylinder. The sleeve you can move by hand. To the right of the piston rod is another cam actuated piece but the smaller attached piece is broken. It was at one time connected to the moveable sleeve. It is also broken in two other places. On one end of the base and at the top of the cylinder on one side. There is a window to the left that as the knob is turned it moves a disck that displays the action taking place and reads "Explode", "Compression", "Intake" and "Exhaust". The back cover screws on so this could be disassembled to clean and paint. I have left it as found. I found 2 examples that sold on in 2011, one for $538.00 and the other for $676.66 and could not find any other examples sold.
sale ends Wednesday Night.
