Rare Qing Chinese Antique Nobility Dragon Robe Kossu Kesi Embroidered Silk Ji Fu:
Rarest extremely high quality kossu dragon robe long pao (five claw dragon robe) for a noblewoman (or possibly a child) in purple with best detailed work, no painting, only small tiny pieces all individually woven, dyed, and sewn together. No fading of the colors at all. The original dragon robe, manufactured in the latter half of the 19th c. has been cut down in the 1930's for export to the Western market and is cut into a ladies' jacket style with no original buttons, colllar or sleeves and with two of the original 9 dragons missing from the remaining fabric. In the interest of restoration here is some kossu in the seams and shoulders which can be let out for completing the designs or for future display, at least 4 additional inches in two seams, and two in the center seam. The sleeves may be partially restored for display purposes, as the dragons on the shoulders are intact, but darted in tucks. Measures 30" shoulder to hem X 32" sleeve tip to sleeve tip. As a 30's garment, it is in excellent condition, ready for display as it is with the original blue silk lining fully intact inside and re-tailored to the current dimensions. Please see the photos for extensive photos of the minor sewn repairs, and a few loose thread areas in need of further small repairs that are mainly on the front of this jacket. It is shown displayed on a bamboo pole, and on the mannequin. Although this piece has been cut down, it is absolutely the highest quality long pao / ji fu, and very rare.
