Rare Royal Copenhagen Coffee Cup & Saucer-cream With Gilding&handpainted Roundel:
This is a rare cup and saucer made by Royal Copenhagen I believe in the 1930s and 1940s. It was originally produced in the mid 19th Century and was again put into production in the 20th Century for a brief period. The factory marks are not 19th century marks so this is a 20th Century item.
The roundel decoration is a painted version of the relief "Winter" or "Old Age" sculpted by the Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen. The "Four Seasons" or "Stages of Life" is a set of four and the rest of the 12 cups in this series are based on other reliefs by the same sculptor.
The saucer is 4.24" (11 cm) across and the cup is 2.25" (5.5 cm) high and the same across at the rim.
Please read the condition description above and study the photographs as they form part of the description and note the hairlines on the saucer.
Thank you for looking.
