ARare Swedish Infantry Rapier Sword Circa 1600\'s.
The sword condition is very good overall.
The hilt is comprised of a guard which is a flat and slightly curving inward at the edges, with a single quillon and a knuckle bow which attaches to the pommel and a branch which snakes down to the iron/steel plate. The inside of the guard also has markings; two number which I make out \" 17.\" and a large stamped letter \"T\" which may correspond to a particular armoury or regiment. The grip has wirebraidwhich is perhaps an older replacement and the handle moves slightly most likely due to the wood grip havingshrunkover the years. The guard/plate also has a hole which on closer inspection reveals a periodcorrectrepair was made. I could only speculate but quiet a lot of force would have been needed to penetrate this heavily forged guard, perhaps caused from a musket ball orshrapnelof some sort. Some veryunnoticeablemovement is present. Theswordalso has a heavy pommel as a counter weight making it veryversatile
The blade has a hexagonal cross section and is heavy designed for close combat both for trusting and slashing. The edge has been blunted out but you can see this sword has been through a lot due to the high amount of nicks on the edge. The blade has also multiple proof marks on either side at the base. The blade isridgedand in good condition with minimal rust.
This sword is extremely wellmade piece and one of the nicest examples I have seen perfect for any collector.
