Fresh to market after 20+ years!

A terrific example of sleek, Scandinavian design from a master craftsman: Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985) - this time working in copper for Kultakeskus Oy (Finland). A small bowl with angular and curved lines in smooth copper, forming a straight edge on 2 sides and a lip on the 3rd edge (see photos). We had 2 identical bowls by Wirkkala – the 1st we sold in 2009 on ; this is the 2nd to be sold (now part of a major clearout pending a long-term plan to move (downsize)).

Wirkkala created some 630+ designs for Kultakeskus, starting in the 1950s (so this is an early design for them) and providing some up to the year he died (1985). Most designs are in copper or silver (with some teak), or glass. His family - Sami and Maaria Wirkkala - continue to collaborate with Kultakeskus Oy.

We contacted Kultakeskus Oy in Finland with these photos to help us date both pieces accurately, as the company maintains very accurate archives of all their designers' work. Here's what they kindly sent us:

Size: 13.5cm at widest point; 11cm deep; 4cm at highest point.
Marks: note: main mark bears the manufacturer stamp AND Tapio Wirkkala's name in full (plus 'Cu' - the symbol for Copper); second mark is some kind of Finland logo with a fir tree - both marks are stamped into the exterior of the bowl/dish.
Condition: very good - a few minor dirt marks to polish out from interior (see photo 9) - no dents, bumps or scratches - guaranteed. Check our response for Accuracy of Item Description.
