Rare Vintage 1870 Seth Thomas Brass External Bell Ship's Clock Nautical For Sale
Seth Thomas External Bell Ship's Clock Great early ship's clock by Seth Thomas, all in original condition Has twist off glass face Winds up and keeps good time, and bells every half hour on the half hour and hour Bells one extra time each half hour, until it bells 8 times after 4 hours which signified a sailor's watch time was up This is the earliest one I have ever came across...it has on the dial 'Pat Nov. 4th, 1870 Seth Thomas USA' I cannot find another one that has a Pat. date this early on it The dial does have heavy wear (as can be seen in the pictures) I could have bought a replacement dial, but I did not because of the scarcity of the original patent date that this one has (and it is definitely original with the clock) I'm hoping that whoever wins this sale knows how to clean that dial, as it is definitely a rare original piece It has the original movement marked 'Seth Thomas Thomaston, Conn.' The body of the clock has a nice nickle-brass patina Has mahogany wood back that has serial number stamped on back '3981D' There is no key with the clock It measures 10 1/2" long X 6 1/4" wide X 3" deep (out from the wall) This is a great, very early, ships clock that's all original and would be a fantastic addition to your collectionCheck out my other Antiques and Vintage Items
