J.E. Caldwell & Co. was founded in Philadelphia, 1839, by JamesEmmot Caldwell.As a young adult, heapprenticed with amaster jeweler alongside Joseph T. Bailey of Bailey Banks & offerdle, andwent on to open his own department store, eventually relocating fromPhiladelphia to New York City. J.E.Caldwell & Co. evolved into also subcontracting companies likeSpode and Mintons to manufacture china and crystal with their brand, until thebusiness was finally sold in 2009.
