This sale is for the ORIGINAL, VINTAGE 6.5x9-INCH SEPIA-TONED ALBUMEN PHOTOGRAPHIC PRINT SHOT AND PRINTED BY GUGLIELMO PLUSCHOW listed in the item title and shown in my scan. This is a stunning image, all the more rare because of it unequivocal stamp verso, as shown in my second scan, and the pencil notation indicating the pose number. This penciled number probably corresponds to the placement of this particular image on a catalog sheet offering images by Pluschow, who was active in the latter part of the 19th Century and the earliest decades of the 20th Century.

GUGLIELMO PLUSCHOW (1852-1930) was a German photographer who was the cousin of the better known and much more widely published early photographer of male nudes, WILHELM VON GLOEDEN, to whom Pluschow reportedly taught the basics of camera and darkroom work. So similar are the work of Pluschow, Gloeden and their Italian contemporary VINCENZO GALDI that their images often have been published and misattributed to one another. Thus, it is a rare privilege to offer a print that is unquestionably by this early master, to whom we actually owe a debt of gratitude for teaching his more famous cousin the art of photography.This is a vintage singleweight albumen print on thin matte fiber photographic paper, and it likely was printed in the early 1900s, when Pluschow was actively marketing his work. This stunning print is in EXCELLENT condition, with only the most minor rippling along its edges (which would be unnoticeable when matted), and it has some album paper adhered verso along the edges, as shown in my second scan. This is a truly rare and beautiful example of this photographer\'s art, and my opening price reflects its rarity and its condition.
