Rare Vtg Womens Suffrage Pennant We Want Our Rights Votes For Women 1914 Exc:
Super rare find here, vintage full size womens suffrage wool pennant. Looks to be in excellent vintage condition to me and still has intact streamers, which is pretty unusual for these old pennants. I have not seen this particular motif on a womens suffrage item before, but I am not super well versed in this aspect of American history, although I have general knowledge regarding it (and did see a "History Detectives" segment on another suffrage pennant). After examining this piece closely, I wondered if it might be an ANTI-suffrage message, as the ladies depicted look rather menacing, one brandishing a hatchet and the other a rolling pin. It may represent their extreme resolve about the right to vote and that they are "mad as hell". However, the "We Want Our Rights" inscription and the pennant within the pennant inscription "Votes For Women" (the classic catch phrase of the movement) make me think this is a pro-suffrage piece. At any rate, this is a beautiful pennant, maroon in color, with vibrant graphics with still strong coloring.. There is minor cracking to some of the lettering as one might expect. There may be a tiny pinhole or two in the left cream color border, but hardly noticeable. I do not note any tears, holes or major defects in the body of the pennant. It is larger than most pennants I've handled in the past, measuring approximately 13 inches high and 39 inches across. There is a copyright of 1914, which fits the time frame of the movement. This is a superb, almost 100 year old piece of socio-political Americana and would be a wonderful and important historical addition to any suffrage collection. I will roll this pennant loosely when shipping. These old wool pennants are a lot more forgiving than the modern pennants that crease so easily. Sold as is/as found. Good luck offerding.
