Rare (als) Autographed Grace Mott Johnson~ Pueblo Indian Woman ~ Santa Fe & Taos:
Rare 1924 Real Photo postcard written by noted sculptor, artist, feminist and civil rights activist, Grace Mott Johnson (1882-1967). The subject of the photograph is a Pueblo woman standing in front of her outdoor oven in beautiful New Mexico..... Johnson's biography is richly described in Wikipedia and other online sources. She was married to noted pioneer cubist artist Andrew Dasberg from 1909 to 1922 during which they traveled in many of the prestigious avant-garde artists circles in the U.S. and Europe. Their friends included Henri Matisse, Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia Okeeffe and patrons Gertrude and Leo Stein. In 1918 Johnson was associated with Mabel Dodge-Luhan's colony of artists in Taos, New Mexico.
In the postcard Johnson comments about her work as she points out that she had "struck some good clay here underground," presumably material for her sculpture work that coming winter... The photograph has no photographers attribution but was probably taken by her. Very collectible card on several levels.
This postcard has tip creases, otherwise is in good condition. It is GUARANTEED to be vintage and not a recent reproduction or copy.... Purchase with confidence.

I've been a collector of photographs, important documents and publications related to Native American history for over 35 years. I am not a commercial dealer. My collection mainly covers the period from early 1700's to 1930. The images (all original) are of various sizes and have been safely stored in archival museum boxes in a climate controlled setting and are in the same condition as when I acquired them.... Please let me know if you are searching for anything in particular and I will be happy to check and place them on if available.
I also have some interesting non-Native material and vernacular photographs that caught my eye over the years.... See my current listings and watch for others....
Always interested in any response that might shed additional light on this item.
