Genuine antique early 20th century Art Nouveau period Rowntrees Gums old glass storage jar used in a sweet shop with metal lid with impressed design of foliage leaf scrolls
Original lettering advertising ROWNTREES GUMS on the rim of the metal lid. Metal lid has relief design in typical art nouveau style
Glass jar is original old glass which casts a wonderful shadow showing the \'runs\' in the glass, ie when the glass was fluid in its manufacture - see photo
Condition: Overall in good antique condition for its age.
Metal lid has NO Dents, NO dings, feels smooth to touch iron metal that has corroded a long time ago ie no paint remaining. There are two tiny original round holes in the metal lid near the knob - these seem to be air holes part of the original manufacture. The metal lid is impressed with the design on the lid and with the lettering
Glass is overall perfect EXCEPT there is a small chip on the inside rim of the glass jar. This is not visible as it it covered by the rim of the metal lid.
Reason for sale: I am a private seller and recently moved house/ down-sized and am sorting through long held nice items that I no longer need or use.
I have loved using this jar for 30 plus years on as a really practical storage jar - just so nice to use. At one time when I first go it, I did think about re-painting the lid to colours of my own choice but never had time and then decided it is perfectly good as it is because it makes you look at the art nouveau-ness of the design which is in raised relief.
Size: approx 9 1/2 inches from base to top of knob of metal lid. Glass is 4 1/2 inches diameter at its base which is wider than at the top, as it is designed with a rim round the base
This is a heavy glass jar weighs 865 grammes without packaging
I pack all my items and especially glassware in protective box very carefully for transit.
