Rare early 19th Century EUROPEAN CAVALRY SWORD French / German - Napoleonic
Up for sale:
this early 19th Century European cavalry sword which is in the French or German style.
The blade shows a curved shape, the guard is made of brass and it has an iron sheath.
The style of the sword looks very much like the French Hussard`s or Chasseurs style but this style has also been used in Germany.
Statistics: the overall length of the sword is 950 mm (37.4 Inches) > the blade length is 830 mm (32.7 Inches).
The fullered blade shows engraving on both sides: thereare "stand of arms" and floral decorations.
The parts near the hilt shows engraving which looks exactly like the Solingen blades of that era.
The brass guard showsnice stylised curves with a rare detail near the upper end.
The sheath has one suspension ring and is in excellent untouched condition.
Condition of the sword: the blade has been cleaned and shows some light pepper & salt pitting > the tip is slightly blunt.
Most of the engraving is in good condition.
The hilt is complete and in good condition for it`s age. There is some "play" between the blade and the hilt but this is normal for swords this age.
The leather and wire are missing from the grip and the original wooden part shows some splits and wormholes.
Well...that`s about all I can tell you about this sword....any useful information is welcome so I can revise the description.
