Rare Unusual Antique Steam Engine Punch Press Tool Marklin Toy? Salesman Sample? For Sale
Rare unusual antique steam engine punch press tool. Is it a Marklin toy? A salesman's sample?
Up for sale is interesting miniature mechanical punch press tool. It was discovered in a box of miscellaneous antique industrial items. I believe this is an early toy that was operated by a portable steam machine. Marklin used to be a European manufacturer of such highly detailed toys in early 1900's. I would date this punch press being made in 1900's-1930's. I could not fidn any marks on the body of this press. Could it be a prototype? Since it is an antique object, it is made entirely out of metal with no plastic parts. Using this press I was able to punch a hole in a paper. What is unusual in this particular punch press is the attachment for automatic feeding the strip of paper. At least that is what I call it. I also like a pedal on this press that shifts the small pinion, engaging it with a main gearwheel. I haven't tested this punch press attaching it to a steam engine but it appears to me that the press is functional. I judge strictly from manually rotating the flywheel. This press has been in my collection for a bout a year and I just like the way it looks; the combination of exposed flywheel and a gear. I've inspected the press and I haven;t discovered any cracks. There is some paint loss and other small imperfections but otherwise the condition of this item is simply amazing. Please, judge about condition from the pictures. This press hasn't been cleaned or restored. It still has original paint, machine grease and dust of times. If this press is not a toy, I am thinking it could be a salesman's sample.
