A total of only 5,050 hand-selected $5 coins were released by the mint. This set includes the rare 1914 coin with an extremely low original mintage of 31,122 and the rare 1912 coin of which only a reported 1,336 were offered to the public in this most recent release by the Royal Canadian Mint, the lowest quantity of any hand-selected coin. As a result the 1912 coin has become much rarer and more difficult to find in nice condition due to the additional length of time the coins had been in circulation.
For the $5 gold coin's the Royal Canadian Mint released only the following quantities with the rest planned to be melted down: 1912: 1,336 1913: 1,790 1914: 1,924
The original mintage's of these coins are as follows: 1912: 165,680 1913: 98,832 1914: 31,122
With well over 200,000 of the original $5 and $10 coins being melted down, the collector appeal and future value of these coins has increased dramatically.
