Rarest Antique Bradley Hubbard Gnome Elf Fairy Leprechaun Bookends, Orig. Paint For Sale
Wonderful bookends depicting 2 gnomes (or elves or leprechauns) sitting on a log in the woods, one of them holding a book, the other scratching his head in puzzlement. Not clear to me what is transpiring between the two figures: Is one reading to the other? Is one explaining the concept of "writing" to the other? Or are both baffled by what this curious object may be? No matter - these are as charming as they can be! And in full color! While not marked so, these definitely are Bradley & Hubbard as evidenced by the little rubber feet (now mashed down with age) on the corners of the bottoms. There would have been paper labels on the bottoms as well. This set is not in any of the reference books or on-line collections and is only the second pair I've ever seen. At least 90 years old, I would say, probably 100 or more. Condition is superb. No damage to the structure - not surprising given these are cast iron (yes, a magnet sticks). But what IS surprising is how well the paint has held up...all original, no touch-ups, and entirely intact. Overall, nothing more than nicks and scuff along the edges and bases. 4 1/2 inches tall; 5 1/4 inches wide; 2 1/2 inches deep. And fairly heavy for their small stature. US shipping only. USPS Priority Mail Flat Rate Medium Box, insurance and Delivery Confirmation. I SPECIALIZE IN ANTIQUE BOOKENDS. PLEASE SEE MY OTHER LISTINGS FOR INTERESTING AND UNUSUAL SETS.
