You are offerding on the skeleton of a real Boomerang Trigger fish (Sufflamen bursa). Fish skeletal taxidermy is difficult because each skeleton is made of hundreds of loose, delicate bones. However, this skeleton was carefully and tediously articulated into one solid piece. The Boomerang triggerfish is one of about 40 species of triggerfish that live in tropical reefs around the world. Triggerfish have uniquely shaped bodies and a strong pair of jaws. As a protection against predators, a triggerfish can erect its two dorsal spines. The first spine is locked in place by erection of the short second spine, and can be unlocked only by depressing the second, “trigger” spine, hence the name “triggerfish”.
