A truly magnificent 1870’ cream silk faille and embroidered cream silk bustle reception dress that has recently been de-accessioned from a major museum collection. The cataloging tags are attached to the bodice. The label reads M. Switzer, 140 5th Ave. New York. The bodice is decorated with Cluny lace and hundreds of white and gold silk balls. The sleeve cuffs are trimmed with ivory satin ribbon and decorative silk balls. The center back peplum if made of cream silk embroidered fabric. The fabric has a large floral pattern. The bodice has a front button closure and is lined with white silk. The skirt is elaborately designed with a front panel of embroidered silk. The remainder of the skirt is made of silk faille fabric. The skirt is adorned with Cluny lace and hundreds of gold and white silk balls. The front of the skirt is trimmed with ivory satin ribbon bows. The skirt has a long back sweep. It is lined with gold silk. The dress is in very good condition. There is no underarm discoloration or age spotting. The lining in the bodice is perfect.
