The classic Pelikan 100 piston-filling fountain pen of the 1930s is a brilliant design, with one weakness --the barrel. Original barrels were made of celluloid or cellulose acetate. Both were fine materials, butseventy years later, most original barrels are now cracked, warped, or worse.
Realizing that new barrels would enable many Pelikans to be restored to working order, we arranged to have a limited run of barrels machinedup in various colors of durable acrylic resin. Note that these barrels are NOT original Pelikan manufacture, nor are they factory-authorized. They are newly-made to our specifications by a well-knownAmerican pen manufacturer. They will accommodate original Pelikan 100 parts, including sections, filling units, caps, and barrel sleeves ("binde"). Barrel sleeve fit is deliberately designed to be on the loose side, so as to minimize risk of splitting.
The only version now available is colorless transparent (the green, blue, and red barrels are now all sold). This listing is for just one (1) barrel, as shown second from the left in the picture below. Other parts are NOT included.
Barrels can be used with or without barrel sleeves, but note that there will be a slight step where the barrel abuts the filler unit if no sleeve is mounted.
Barrels are furnished finish machined, as shown above. Further polishing will provide greater transparency, as shown below. Acrylic can be colored by applying a layer of transparent lacquer (acrylic is difficult to dye), but this is not our area of expertise and we cannot offer any guidance.
