This is a special darker prototype colourway that was created by Doulton. It was never put in to production.

This is possibly even more rare than I first thought. After looking more closely at the standard issued item it has become evident that this one is not just a different colourway. It appears to be a completely different mould to the issued one. This one is only 6\" high whereas the issued one is 7\" high and the green part to the hat is a completely different shape. It is more curved and does not turn up towards the edge. It is also more shallow. The stamp on the bottom is also in a different direction to the issued version. I suspect that this may be an early unique version for client review. Changes in height and the hat were possibly brought about after reviewing this version. This version is unique.
