Royal Worcester England Hand Painted Bird Lidded Pillbox 1931 WILLIAM POWELL Description
Up for sale is a pretty hand painted Royal Worcester lidded mini pillbox.
This item was hand painted and signed "Powell" (William Seaborn Powell, a well-known Royal Worcester artist who began working there in 1898 and retired in 1950; his bird pieces are especially sought after). It dates to 1931.
The hand painted decoration shows a bird on the lid, perched on a flowering branch.
Both the lid and base are marked as shown in the photographs, and are in very good overall condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines. Both pieces have some underglaze crazing. There is a tiny fleck of paint missing off of the bird's shoulder, and an even tinier one off of the bird's breast.
The pieces are marked with the Royal Worcester marks for 1931. The base measures just under 3/4" high, and the lid is 1 3/8" across.
