John Codman (1782-1847), Congregational minister, born in Boston. He graduated at Harvard in 1802 and completed his studies in Edinburgh. He preached for a year in Great Britain and returned to America, being ordained pastor of the church in Dorchester. In 1834 he was delegate to the Congregational Union of England and Wales, held in England. He was the author of several books, and some of his sermons were published.
Samuel Turell Armstrong (1784-1850) was a member of the Old South church in Boston, a printer of theological and other works, and a politician. He served in several capacities, including as the Lieutenant Governor of Massachusetts and as the mayor of Boston. For more information about Armstrong online, please consult Wikipedia.
Original cloth binding, stamped blind & in gilt, 5 x 7 ½, 29 pp. to the first part & 88 pp. to the second. Lacks the rear free end paper. There are blank leaves interspersed with the member list of the 1841 issue, apparently for the addition of new members - these leaves are blank in this copy. Hinges front and back a bit weak, but nothing separated. The membership lists begin with the year 1669.
