Scarce British 1907 Pattern Wilkinson Bayonet With Hooked Quillion & Scabbard :
A WW1 British 1907 pattern SMLE bayonet made by Wilkinson with hooked quillion, complete with steel mounted leather scabbard and a later frog. Both the bayonet & scabbard are in good condition and would I feel enhance any collection a buyer was looking to add to.
The bayonet measures 21 7/8" long, with a fullered blade of 17". The pommel and crosspiece both good though show signs of age and wear with some slight surface marking. The press stud moves easily and retains its spring. The two wooden gripsare in good condition, bearing the odd surface mark. The blued blade remains in good clean condition; while the edge retains its factory finish and does not appear to have been sharpened. The ricasso bears the makers name and pattern model with the issue date 10 10 showing wear, notably to the second figure; while the reverse bears the War Arrow, Bend Mark and inspection stamps. A fingernail run along the blades edge reveals only a couple of small, slight knocks.
The bayonet is complete with its steel mounted black leather scabbard which remains in good condition with no tears or splits, though the leather shows some surface wear/scuffs along the edges. The leather itself is still supple. Both the locket and chape remain secure with both bearing the stamp M/44. The ventral stitched seam is sound, with no breaks. Entry and exit to the scabbard is both sound and secure.A genuine and authentic item that may interest collectors; any inspection can be arranged and is indeed welcome.Postage to the USA/Australia will be $40/Europe $32 to allow for a tracking service (Airsure).
