Scarce Vfine Vintage Halloween Crescent Moon & Bat Diecut Decoration Germany 20s For Sale
Welcome Fellow Vintage and Antique Hallowe'en and Paper Ephemera Enthusiasts! Many of you know us as longtime collectors and sellers of vintage and antique Hallowe'en, Christmas, Valentine’s Day and Easter memorabilia, antique dolls, old toys, and lovely old china and glassware. For your all-year-long Hallowe’en-loving pleasure, we are HAUNTINGly happy to present a SPOOKTACULAR andSCARCE small crescent moon and flying bat diecut decoration that was made in Germany in the Flapper Days of the Roarin’ 1920s! This example is in VERY FINE condition!
PLEASE NOTE:This is a7 day sale!!!Please meet Bart the Bat and his lifelong Man in the Moon friend! This Hallowe'en decoration was made from thick, heavily-embossed cardboard or pressed paper pulp and it has outstanding color of darker old brownish-orange (the color Ziz just LOVES), black and ivory white. Diecuts such as this one were made with both matte and glossy finishes. This example has a soft glossy finish which is Ziz’s personal favorite. Bart has flown up to visit with his lifelong smiling Man in the Moon friend as he has done on All Hallows' Eve for 90-something years. Notice the details here including the embossed webbing to the bat’s wings and the embossing on his body designed to simulate real bat fur. Two six-pointed stars decorate the ring and one larger orange star appears as well. This piece is stamped Germany on the reverse and is also embossed Germany in tiny letters under the large star. This piece measures 5” in diameter. Ziz has noticed that some of the smaller crescent moons were made with thicker material than others. The thicker ones are able to retain their condition better than the thinner ones. This example was made from thicker material. YEA!One just like this diecut can be seen on page 162 of Mark B. Ledenbach’s outstanding book “Vintage Halloween Collectibles; An Identification & Price Guide (Second Edition)”. Using his relative scarcity index, Mark has assigned the number “3” for this diecut, which means SCARCE. As Mark points out, production runs weren’t always standardized. The crescent moon can make up either the left or the right sides of the diecut. The exact condition is as follows: there is a tiny crease to the tip of one of Bart’s wings however the cardboard is still stable. At the originalhanging hole, there is a tiny surface-only line but this isNOT a crease. There is a tiny bit of wear to Mr. Moon Man’s teeth and when we hold the decoration up to the light we see four ever-so-tiny pinholes that do not show in the front. If you are a Hallowe'en collector who has a particular fondness for decorations from the golden age of Hallowe'en as we do, this hard-to-find diecut, in its superb condition and with its MAGICally magnificent color, just might be the perfect acquisition for you! Please remember Ziz’s motto: Eat, Drink and Be Scary! No BONES about it, we have SCARED up a great deal for true Halloween DIE-hards!
