Sessions Antique Banjo Wall Clock 100% All Original Beautiful & Runs Great For Sale
This is a SUPERIOR 100% ALL ORIGINAL example of a Large Sessions Banjo Wall Clock in great looking and great working condition. It is a classy wall clock in need of a warm loving home. It was made circa 1920 and has a very unique shape. Banjo clocks are unique for sure and all very American as they were invented in the USA! It has a SESSIONS Clock Co 8 day time and strike movement with a heavy long drop original pendulum. The movement runs very well and keeps good time.
The movement was just cleaned, oiled, pivots polished and bushings added where needed. This clock will not need servicing for many years to come, and is ready for the next 100 years! This is a labor intensive service, with many clockmakers charging 250.00 and up.
We recommend having it oiled every 2 to 3 years to keep it in tip-top shape! With the purchase of this clock for an additional $ 2.25 we will include an oiler kit with a professional oiler loaded with enough oil to oil approximately 50 clocks with easy instructions so you could even do it yourself!
The clock strikes the hours and the half hour chime rods with a beautiful sound. The case is in superior condition with the original beautiful finish!
The dial is all original and in superior condition. It has an adjustment for fast and slow on the original pendulum. The metal around the dial (brass) is original and is aging to a very nice patina (no extra screw holes). The hands are original with the original hand nut. The middle and bottom wavy glass and tablets (picture) are original. They have the usual flaking. We sealed the back to prevent any more flaking and touched up the picture so it looks lots better, but not perfect like new…
Runs great! The clock is large and measures 34 inches high, 5 inches deep, and 10 ½ inches wide. This clock still has its original catch for the lower door. Complete with its original heavy pendulum (rare) and a new key. The American eagle top is original. These antique clocks amaze me - could you imagine any other consumer product still working after 80 years! And the truly amazing thing with proper care they will work easily past the next 100 years, with this clock going well beyond that! If you are looking for a very nice antique clock that runs well and is high quality, and was loved and cared for its entire life – this is it!
This fine clock movement has been completely overhauled and cleaned. The main cause of antique clocks’ no longer working is that they need a good cleaning. Over time, the oil in the pivots gathers dust and particles of metallic grit, the result of normal wear. Also the oil breaks down and becomes thick and gummy, and actually acts like glue. The result is that the gears no longer turn freely, and the clock stops. A good cleaning usually is all the clock needs to be almost like new again! The cleaning procedure involves taking the movement out of the case and totally dismantling the movement. All the gears, rods, etc., are taken off of the clock plates and are hand scrubbed and inspected for wear. The springs are taken out of the barrels, stretched out, and hand cleaned and polished. The plates are thoroughly cleaned. Then all the parts are placed in an ultrasonic cleaning machine for the final cleaning. The pivots are polished on the lathe and the pallets are polished. Bushings are installed on any pivot holes that have become “egg shaped” from wear to make them perfectly round again. The movement is reassembled and oiled. (We use only the finest German Clock Oil). The springs are placed back and greased with top-quality synthetic spring grease and the complete movement is placed on a "running stand" and run for several days to insure all is well. It is easier to detect misalignments, bent rods, and worn pivots and gears while it is running in full view. We like to run the movement for over a week to be sure it will run a full 8 days on one winding, and that everything is well. By that time, any problems will usually show up. The final result is a movement that runs just like new! If you like we will include instructions and hints to keep it that way for the next 100 years (or more!). Google “Antique Clock Repair” or visit billsclockworks.com to see what the going price of an antique clock overhaul costs today! Usually over 350.00 for a time and strike movement.
Antique Clocks are a Fine Investment. Each one has a unique quality, as well as appreciating in value and beauty with age. You will become attached to your antique clocks and they will become a meaningful and important part of your life adding untold joy each day you own them. They can be handed down from one generation to another as they increase daily in value. Antique clocks serve many purposes other than being useful in telling time, decorative in your home, a valuable asset in your estate and above all a faithful servant and friend which will be true to you to the end of time.
This clock will be packed very very carefully to insure a safe delivery and the buyer is to pay $26.50 for packing, shipping and ins (the clocks is large and will require an oversize carton!) I will gladly answer any emails promptly. I have always hated that "reserve" when I have offer myself so this fine clock has and a very very low (gulp) starting offer. We love these clocks and I will be glad to help you set up your new clock, or answer questions long after the sale via email.
We try to describe these clocks as accurately as we can, and include lots of pictures, ( allows 12 maximum) using just about every angle. We go over them thoroughly, and if they're dirty or need overhauling, we clean and overhaul them. Antiques, if they've had normal use, will have age-appropriate wear, which adds character rather than detracting. (WAY TOO much wear will, of course, detract.) Older clocks had to be transported over rough, unpaved roads in horse and buggy, buckboards, and maybe even Conestoga wagons.
We test them out here before shipping and guarantee they will work for you, but due to shipment trauma, (why do some UPS and USPS people feel they have to treat packages so roughly?) there may be small adjustments necessary, which we are glad to help you with. We include several pages of setup/adjustment instructions, help via emails and do phone surgery! In extreme cases we ask folks to send the clock back to us to adjust for them and we return them ASAP at our expense.
We also offer a clock oiler (at our cost, with the purchase of a clock) and instructions for oiling your own clock, should you choose to do that.
Thank you very much for looking.
