FOR SALE, a TERRIFIC SET OF 3 DIFFERENT \"good for\" trade tokens once used by the \"U.S. Troops\" (Buffalo Soldier) at the old \"POST EXCHANGE\" at old \"Camp Shannon\" located near Hachita, New Mexico.
Set available is not set pictured, but I feel very equal or better in quality of details.
The site of Hachita is located in Grant County New Mexico. I have read, and it is documented this was the 24th INFANTRY UNIT, a BUFFALO SOLDIER (historic African American Unit) with lots of history to this group.
It is documented that these tokens were used by \"Buffalo Soldier\" unit at old Camp Shannon, during the Pancho Villa conflict between US and Mexico troops. A lot of history with these tokens.
These are beautiful old tokens....often because of heavy use at these old military posts, these are badly worn...all 3 are outstanding specimens, included in set are a 5c, 10c and 25c. (I was fotunate enough to get a couple of sets of these beautiful old military tokens...will sell them as \"buy it now\" lots until they are gone)
These tokens are listed in the US Military token book (Cunningham) under \"Hachita\" as catalog NM190a, NM190b, and NM190c. In my MILITARY TOKEN book (copyright 1995) this set booked for $350....but a few years ago, some specimens recovered...but these are great tokens, with historical significance, offered at way below book price.
Tokens are also listed in the New Mexico token book (Kiser)
These old US Military tokens are extremely collectible today...especially tokens used by African-American \"Buffalo Soldier\" unit, in pursuit of Pancho Villa.
Trade tokens are brass, round and scalloped, and vary from 19mm to 23mm in diameter (dime to quarter sized),and they all display nicely.(please see pictures in gallery) Natural patina intact, these have not been cleaned
Often New Mexico tokens can be found in \"dug\" condition, these are ALL nice specimens with natural patina intact.
Neat old set of 3 trade tokens once used by Buffalo Soldier (24th Infantry unit) and other US soldiers at \"post exchange\" located at Camp Shannon, near Hachita New Mexico. Great little pc of western history. Set being sold at below price of one token in the \"military catalog\"...a great deal.
A very fair price (under both books) for set of 3 pcs of military history !!
