RARE SET OF 6 ANTIQUEJAPANESE IMARISCALLOPEDDISHES

Edo/ Meiji Period,1800s

Superb quality antique Imari dishes with exquisite hand painted detail. Very rare to find a set still together in such wonderful condition after approximately 150 years. Hand painted underglaze blue and overglaze polychrome enamelswith beautiful imagery. Scrolling vines and botanicals featuring paulownia leaves, and golden phoenix birds, the symbols of the Empress. Further embellished insublime shades of vermilion, blue, eggplant, and transparent green with fine attention to detail, along with traditional Japanese patterning from the age of the Shogun and Samurai. A most striking design. The undersides of the dishes are also lovely, hand decorated with underglaze blue ribboned gifts and plum or cherry blossoms.The set dates to themid 1800s,and is in excellent antique condition with just minor surface wear commensurate with age. Must have been carefully stored for over 150 years bythe fortunate owners. Each dish measures approximately 8 1/2\" across.A superb example of the finery found in thehomesof wealthy families of 19th century Japan. A rare andwonderful addition for the connoisseur of world class Japanese antiques.
