Seth Thomas & Sons Rare 1877 Egyptian Revival Sphinx Falcon Lion Mantle Clock:
***Seth Thomas & Sons Very Rare #3460 (1877) Egyptian Revival Possible Prototype Winged Sphinx/Falcon/Lion Clock-----Stunning----NR***
For your consideration with and a super low opening offer is a very rare 1877 (approx ca.) #3460 Stunning Egyptian Revival Mantle clock with falcon/winged sphinx & lion.
This clock runs well and strikes lovely on a cupped bell. Movement signed Seth Thomas & Sons in Script #3460. Movement is a 15 day. Proper key and original pendulum included. Above the #12 is the adjusting arbor for fast/slow.
Case might have been refinished. Gold with copper accents. Heavy spelter metal. Very ornate designs throughout. The Falcon (Eagle) has a screw that supports it to the base which is original. The porcelain face is excellent and so is the bezel and the beveled thick glass. Signed Seth Thomas & Sons New York on face.
The fine clock measures 14.5" tall x 10.65" wide x 5.75" deep. Cannot find in the Tran Duy Ly book for Seth Thomas which makes me feel it is one of a few short term production models or prototypes.
Condition of case excellent. Only the bottoms of feet on the right sphinx seem to not be present. This is very minor. Back door opens and closes securely and so does the front door.
Not sure of last service date. Even though it runs smooth for now, a servicing in the near future might not be a bad idea.
Do not let this one pass you by. I have only seen one more of these (Same style) at an antique store in Oakland, Ca avbout 15 years ago.
Value of this clock would be around $475-$600+. Do not let it pass you by---
