SETH THOMAS SONS & CO.1872
A beautiful find! An early made Seth Thomas Sons Model 8002 statue mantel clock. This clock comes offered directly to you from a local home owner who obviously had a taste for fine antique clocks, as there were several to choose from as he downsized his estate (please view my other sales to see).
Listed and pictured in Tran Duy Ly's book, SETH THOMAS CLOCKS & MOVEMENTS, 3RD EDITION, VOLUME 2, page 1046, with a 2005 price guide value of $900.
The official model is #8002, but I feel this clock would be better suited if it were named "REBECCA AT THE WELL" as it reminds me of the Biblical story written in GENESIS described here;

Abraham called his eldest most trusted servant and told him, "I do not want my son Isaac to marry a daughter of the Canaanites, among whom I live.

Go to my country and to my relatives, and find a wife for my son Isaac." And the servant took 10 camels and departed to Mesopotamia to the city of

Nahor. When he arrived, he made his camels kneel by the side of a well just outside the city. It was evening time, when the women of the city came out

todraw water from the well. And there he prayed to God to show kindness to his master Abraham: "Let it come to pass, that the woman to whom I say

"Put down your pitcher and give me a drink", if she says "Drink. Here is water for your camels also", then let her be the one that you have appointed to

be Isaac's wife."

And before he was done speaking, Rebecca came with her pitcher on her shoulder to draw water from the well. She was a fair and virtuous woman. She

drew water from the well. The servant approached her and said, "give me a drink of water from your pitcher." And Rebeccah said "drink," and quickly

put down her pitcher and gave him a drink. And then she drew some more water from the well and humbly watered the camels.

After the camels were done drinking, the servant took out a gold earring and 2 gold bracelets and gave them to Rebecca and asked, "whose daughter

are you? is there room in your house for us to stay?" And Rebecca replied, "I am Rebecca, daughter of Bethuel, son of Milcah. Yes we have room in our

house for you and your camels." And the servant thanked and worshipped God for leading him to the brethren of his master Abraham.

And he went to their house and told them who he was and why he had come, and how the Lord had chosen Rebecca to be Isaac's wife. And they agreed togive their daughter Rebecca away to marry Isaac, as the Lord had spoken. And Isaac took Rebeccah into his mother's tent, and she became his wife.A very clean and well cared for clock by the looks of it! The movement is the original 15 day round Time & Strike model which strikes hours and half hours on the nickle bell, reminiscent of fine french clocks of the era. Highly regarded by collectors, Seth Thomas and his sons offered some of the finest clocks of the time, and their clocks are one of the few to this day that consistently bring top dollar at sale. As you view the photos, it should be apparent why! The signed porcelain dial is in very nice condition, with minor surface chips around the winding holes. Many times these porcelain dials are severely cracked or fractured leading to an unsightly appearance. It is so nice to find this one in the good condition that you see! Original heavy beveled glass is in fine condition as well. Complete with double ended winding key for twice monthly winding, as well as adjustment of the Fast/Slow arbor at the 12 o'clock position. Please view the pics and email if any questions.
Overall dimensions are approx.14" tallby 5 1/2" deep and 14 1/2" wide.
Complete shipping costs within the continental U.S.Awill be a flat rate of $39.
